Turn today's lecture into
the cards that cover it
Upload your lecture slides. Unsuspendly reads them, figures out what's actually testable, and automatically unsuspends the relevant cards from your favorite deck in your own Anki collection โ no more hand-searching tags after every class. Works best with the AnKing Step deck, and works with any other deck you choose.
macOS & Windows desktop app ยท requires Anki + the free AnkiConnect add-on
Download
Free to download. A subscription unlocks lecture uploads once you're set up.
After installing, Unsuspendly walks you through connecting AnkiConnect, choosing your deck and tag source, and subscribing โ no separate setup guide needed.
How it works
Setup only happens once โ after that, it's three steps every time you want to catch up on a lecture.
Quick setup
A guided walkthrough connects AnkiConnect, lets you pick your destination deck (Step 1, Step 2, or any deck you name) and tag source, and takes your license key. One time only.
Upload Lecture
Pick the PDF or PowerPoint for a lecture, or several at once, and optionally tag them with a subject/objective. Unsuspendly extracts the text and asks an AI model which concepts are actually testable.
Review & Run
The searches it comes up with load in automatically. Skim them, edit anything that looks off, then run โ nothing touches Anki until you say so.
Study
Matching cards are unsuspended right in your existing Anki deck, optionally filed into a subdeck for the lecture. Every run is saved to history, so you can undo it later if something looks wrong.
Built for how med students actually study
Not a new flashcard deck โ a faster way to use the one you already have.
Works with your existing Anki collection
No new deck to import or maintain. Unsuspendly finds cards already in your own AnKing deck.
Handles a whole block of lectures at once
Upload multiple slide decks in a single batch instead of processing them one at a time.
You review before anything runs
Derived searches always land in a review step first โ edit or remove anything before it touches your collection.
Every run is undoable
Changed your mind? Resuspend exactly what a run touched, right from its history entry.
Optional per-lecture subdecks
Automatically file matched cards into a subdeck named after the lecture โ and optionally by subject/study objective too, e.g. a course and exam block.
Safe subdeck cleanup
Move an entire subject's, objective's, or single lecture's cards back to your main deck first, so deleting the now-empty subdeck in Anki never risks losing cards.
Works with any AnKing version or deck
Point it at Step 1, Step 2, a newer AnKing release, or a differently-named deck entirely, and fetch your own live tag list straight from Anki whenever tags change.
Usage insights built in
See lectures processed, cards matched, and monthly trends right in Settings โ no guessing how much of your plan you've used.
No API key to manage
Your subscription covers the shared AI usage behind the scenes โ nothing extra to sign up for.
Why I built this
I built Unsuspendly because I was losing hours every week doing something Anki should have been able to do for me.
As a medical student, most of my school's lectures aren't taught straight from First Aid or Boards and Beyond โ they're in-house lectures, often with a slightly different emphasis or vocabulary than however the AnKing deck happens to tag things. After every class I'd be digging through tags by hand trying to figure out which AnKing cards actually matched what was just taught, unsuspending them one search at a time. It worked, but it was slow, repetitive, and easy to miss cards simply because I didn't think to search the right term.
Unsuspendly is the tool I wished existed: read the actual slides, figure out what's genuinely testable, and find the matching cards in my own collection โ without hand-searching tags after every single lecture. I built it for myself first, then figured other students stuck doing the same manual searching every week could use it too.

Questions
What do I need to use this?
A Mac or Windows PC, Anki installed, the free AnkiConnect add-on, and an AnKing deck (Step 1 or Step 2). Unsuspendly walks you through installing AnkiConnect and choosing your deck the first time you open it.
Does this only work with the Step 1 deck?
No โ you can point it at Step 1, Step 2, a newer AnKing release, or a differently-named deck entirely. Settings also lets you fetch your own live tag list straight from Anki and scope matching to just the newest Step 1 or Step 2 tags, if your collection has older tag versions mixed in.
Does this replace Anki or the AnKing deck?
No โ it works alongside your existing setup. Unsuspendly only changes which cards in your current collection are suspended or unsuspended (or, optionally, which subdeck they're filed under), and never deletes anything.
Can I undo a run if it unsuspends the wrong cards?
Yes. Every run is saved to your history with exactly which cards it touched, and can be undone with one click.
Is there a Windows version?
Yes โ Unsuspendly runs on both macOS (13 or later) and Windows (10 & 11, 64-bit). Both download from this page and work the same way.
How do I cancel?
Manage or cancel your subscription any time from the app's Settings tab, or directly through Stripe's customer portal โ no need to contact support.
